Estrogen & Hormone Therapy
Sixty percent of estrogen in premenopausal women is produced by the ovaries. The other 40 percent comes from non-glandular tissues throughout the body. As the ovaries’ functions decline, the estrogen they produce decreases and the body systems adjust with the hormonal changes. The skin contains estrogen receptors, in some areas more than others. The areas with the highest numbers of receptors are most affected. These high receptor areas include the face, genitals and lower limbs.
